Family speaks out after Darlington man accused of trying to set home on fire multiple times

DARLINGTON COUNTY, SC (WBTW) – Deputies arrested 37-year-old Andrew Brown of Darlington Friday after he tried to set a neighbor’s house on fire several times over a period of three weeks.

Brown’s neighbors say they are still shook up over what they call a horror movie that never ends.

Glenn Mcrae is a disabled veteran. His wife Beth has cerebral palsy and his 80 year-old mother in law can’t get around on her own.

The three family members were inside when Brown first tried to burn their house down.

“This has woken up dragons that I thought I had put away and it’s all right back in my face again now,” said Glen Mcrae.

“I’m very, very, shaky about it right now…very shaky,” mentioned Beth Mcrae.

That’s because the second and third attempts by Brown were less than twelve hours a part. But this time a fire bomb flew through their bedroom window.

“My head is right here in my bedroom, this come through the window right here,” said Mcrae as he was pointing at the damage near his bedroom window.

The home suffered multiple damages by the fire, allegedly started by next door neighbor Andrew Brown. Deputies with the Darlington County Sheriff’s Office say Brown tried over a period of three weeks to set Mcrae’s house on fire. Police arrested brown Friday at his home after a brief struggle.

And as far as the Mcrae family, that shaky feeling is still overbearing.

“I’m scared that they are going to let him out on bond and I don’t want that to happen,” added Beth Mcrae.

“I go out of my way to try and help people. Anybody that knows me will tell you that I don’t bother nobody. I go take care of my business outside the house. I come home I go in my house because I’m 100% disable anyway and I got one vessel supply in my heart,” said Mcrae.

Mcrae says the damage all together will cost hundreds of dollars to fix. He says if it wasn’t for his two dogs things could have turned out much different.
