Family of Socastee teen seeks answers after hit-and-run

SOCASTEE, S.C. (WBTW)- The South Carolina Highway Patrol is investigating a hit-and-run crash that happened in Socastee this week.

Corporal Sonny Collins with the Highway Patrol says it happened on Rosewood Drive around 8:50pm Tuesday. Collins says no leads thus far on the type of vehicle involved.

Family and friends reached out to News13 with hopes of getting the community’s help for information about the crash and exactly what happened. Ellen See tells News13, her daughter Abby, was the victim in the crash.

The family says it’s frustrating not knowing what happened.

“The report is not really filled out because there’s nothing. We don’t really know anything. You know, all they know is that it was a hit-and-run. They don’t know anything else. It was no tire marks, no glass or anything. No evidence of anything.” Ellen See said.

Ellen said her daughter has several injuries including many broken bones and will need a wheelchair for the next 4-6 weeks.

“There’s just no reason to leave someone there like that. No matter the circumstances. I wouldn’t wish this on my worst enemy.”

The 14-year-old is a student at Socastee High School. Friends created a GoFundMe page to assist the family with the long recovery ahead. Abby’s mom says the outpouring of support has been amazing but the biggest thing the family wants is answers.

“I just want justice you know. I want them to pay for what they did. I want them to feel what I feel and what my daughter is feeling.”

The family is now offering a cash reward for any information that leads to an arrest.
