CONWAY, SC (WBTW) – Conway police say they have arrested a man connected to the shooting that happened on Dillon Street Saturday.
Sergeant Darren Alston with Conway police says Lloyd Edward Pertelle III, 18, has been charged with accessory after the fact to felony murder.
According to Lt. Selena Small, the shooting happened in the area of Dillon Street and Grainger Road. Small said when officers arrived at the scene around 6:30 a.m., they found one person dead inside a taxi-van.
Horry County Coroner Tony Hendrick identified the victim as 54-year-old David John Bennett from Conway. According to Hendrick, Bennett died from a single gunshot wound to the chest while sitting behind the wheel of his taxi.
Pertelle was granted a $75,000 surety bond, to be released on GPS monitoring, according to Alston. The bond was granted by Judge Jane A. Mackey.
After the hearing, Bennett’s daughter Katelyn Bennett told News13 she was still in shock over losing her father.
“I can’t believe I’m here right now doing this, It hits me, it comes and goes. I don’t know how I’m going to do this now,” said Bennett.
She says the last few days have been a nightmare.
“I just want my daddy back. That’s what I want. My sister came from New Hampshire. She hasn’t seen him in six years, and she saw him for the first time, cold,” said Bennett.
Bennett says she’s hoping others will come forward with more information so they can have closure for their father.
“I don’t have hate. I don’t have a bit of hate in my body, and a lot of people probably think I’m crazy for saying that, but I don’t even hate the people I want to say that took my father’s life,” said Bennett.
Pertelle was booked Monday at 8:09 p.m. and he is now out on home detention.
Pertelle is due back in court in May 2017.
