SOCASTEE, S.C. (WBTW)- The family of Heather Elvis will gather at Peachtree Landing, Thursday June 30 to mark what would have been her 23rd birthday.
Heather Elvis was 20-years-old when she went missing. Prosecutors say the last sign of Elvis was a ping from her cell phone that came in the middle of the night from Peachtree Boat Landing in Socastee.
Horry County Police discovered Elvis’ abandoned car December 19, 2013, one day after she was last heard from.
This year marks the family’s third birthday spent without her but it’s even more difficult for her mom this year.
Last Friday, a hung jury lead to a mistrial in the Sidney Moorer kidnapping case.
“I don’t even know how to explain the difficulty this past week has had. Our brains and hearts were like on hold almost. It’s kind of a numbness and as that numbness has been wearing off and the reality of what happened is setting in, it’s no less difficult that last week was,” Debbie Elvis said.
Because of everything the family has gone through, they want to give back to the organization that’s done so much for them the last two-and-a-half years.
“Doing something for CUE, whose spent a lot of time, a lot of volunteer time, a lot of resources in searching and looking for Heather. We feel like giving back to them is the thing to do. It also helps the families of other missing people,” Debbie Elvis said.
The family is asking the community to donate to the CUE Center for Missing Persons in Heather’s name.
“The only thing in this situation to make myself in this situation is to do something. Whether it’s for Heather or somebody else. I just have to do something. I just can’t sit back and not do something.”
In addition, the family is asking for anyone with information or tips into Heather’s disappearance to contact the Horry County Police Department.
