Family desperately searching for missing mom after Gatlinburg fires

GATLINBURG, TN – A family is desperate to find their missing mother after the fires that tore through Gatlinburg and other parts of Sevier County.

Alice Hagler was last seen Monday night at her home at the top of Wiley Oakley Drive in the Chalet Village area of Gatlinburg. Her son James Wood, who has been living with her, said he had been talking with her when communication was cut off.

“We had been talking for several hours on and off. She called me at 8:30 and said the house was on fire. I told her to get out immediately. We got disconnected and I have not been able to get in touch with her since,” said James Wood.

Hagler’s family is hoping for the best and that she is simply taking shelter at a neighbor’s house. Her other son Lyle Wood and his wife Rachel have come in from Savannah, Georgia, to aid in the search.

“Maybe someone at a shelter that’s watching the news, or maybe a neighbor. Our hope is that she’s at a neighbor’s house right now watching the news, and knowing her family is looking for her. We’re here. We’ve come to find her,” said Lyle Wood. “If you see her now and you’re taking to her, she’s probably talking about her grandkids or about her wonderful family. Because she loves us a lot and we love her a lot.”
