WINSTON-SALEM, NC – Police in Winston-Salem arrested a man who they say lied about seeing and chasing a clown in near his home.
The man, 24-year-old David Wayne Armstrong, called police to report a person dressed as a clown that had knocked on his window. He then told officers he chased the clown into nearby woods.
Armstrong later admitted to officers that he made up the story and was charged with Filing a False Police Report.
Winston-Salem Police say they have also had other reports of clown sightings in the city, including one that was said to have attempted to lure two children into woods by offering them treats.
According to the incident report, the suspect was described as a man wearing a clown costume consisting of white overalls, white gloves, red shows, red bushy hair, a white face, and a red nose.
Investigators found video surveillance footage of the area where the kid luring was claimed to have happened. Police found nobody dressed as a clown trying to lure children. Police say they have been unable to substantiate any of the sightings.
