Former Coast RTA General Manager Myers Rollins, who was pulling down a $134,000 salary just last year, was arrested at a Myrtle Beach Walmart on shoplifting charges over the weekend, police say.
Former Coast RTA General Manager, Myers Rollins, was arrested on Valentine’s Day for shoplifting about $300 worth of merchandise from Walmart, a police report says.
According to the report, Rollins left unpaid merchandise in the garden center at the Walmart in Seaboard Street in Myrtle Beach.
After paying for a few select items, Rollins returned to the garden center, however the unpaid items had been moved back into the store, says the report.
The report says Rollins then walked back inside found the unpaid items and passed all points of sale with the cart, the Myrtle Beach Police report says.
In total the items equaled $278.16, the police report said.
Rollins was in charge of a $3,888,551 budget in 2014 for Coast RTA according to its financial statements.
That budget included $1.05 million in contributions from Horry County and $348,500 from Myrtle Beach.
While working as Coast RTA’s Rollin’s salary was $134,500 according to the Sun News.
The Sun News reports that Rollins received a severance package after being fired that equaled 6 months of his full salary as well as 60 days of any unused vacation or sick days.
Rollins was fired in April of 2014.
In the termination letter, it states the termination is without cause and effective immediately.
Coast’s board chair said the decision was based solely on a search for new leadership.
