FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. — A man charged with killing his Hope Mills teen ex-girlfriend two years ago this month was back in court on Monday afternoon.
Je’Michael Malloy, age 19, appeared before a Cumberland County judge.
Malloy is accused of killing 15-year-old Danielle Locklear in March of 2014.
In court on Monday, attorneys discussed Malloy accepting a plea deal that would guarantee him the possibility of parole after 25 years.
The judge gave the defense one month to decide.
Malloy confessed to killing Locklear in March 2014 after her body was discovered in the South River, just south of Autryville, on April 2, 2014, officials said.
Police said Malloy and Dominic Lock tied cinder blocks to Locklear’s body before tossing her in the river.
In July 2015, Lock pleaded guilty to being an accessory after the fact to first-degree murder. Lock was originally charged with second-degree murder of Locklear, who went to South View High School.
Locklear died from asphyxiation.
Malloy was previously charged with second-degree murder in the case.
Malloy is back in court April 4.
