Events in nearly 40 SC communities mark Bike to School Day

COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) – Almost 40 South Carolina communities are planning events for National Bike to School Day.

Wednesday’s observance is the fourth time Bike to School Day has been held nationally.

The event was created to raise awareness for the need for safer routes for bicycling and walking. The event is also designed to encourage physical activity among students.

The South Carolina Safe Routes to School Resource Center provides education programs and planning help for elementary and middle schools to develop safe bicycle paths and walkways to schools.
