MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WBTW) – The popularity of essential oils is on the rise, but their proper usage isn’t quite as common. That’s according to holistic life coach, Tenesha Vereen and aromatherapist, Stephanie Norris, who say there are plenty of benefits to the oils, if they are used correctly. Norris says the oils, which are purely extracted from various plants and botanical sources, can be powerful and should be used with care. Vereen adds that simply because something is “natural” does not mean it isn’t dangerous.

The duo owns and operates Essential Infusions which aims to provide awareness and guidance to wellness using natural solutions. They say essential oils can be used for a variety of ailments such as your average headache or even for allergy relief, but it’s important to consult a professional. Vereen says one of the most common mistakes users make is using the oil “neat,” or applying oil directly to the skin, or even ingesting them. She says it’s vital to understand what you’re putting in and on your body.

According to Norris and Vereen, essential oils are often an alternative, or “clean” option for those wanting to decrease the number of toxins they’re taking in. They’re also known for having fewer side effects than traditional medications, but aren’t always meant to be used alone. Vereen says sometimes the oils are most effective when used in conjunction with other treatment.
