MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WBTW) – The old Emerald Shores Motel on Ocean Boulevard was demolished Wednesday.

The motel has been empty for years, and has been known to attract crime.  At one point it was even set on fire by an arsonist.

The demolition is just one of a handful of hotels the city is tearing down as part of a downtown redevelopment project.

According to the Myrtle Beach City Government Facebook page, demolition is expected to take  a week and “is being funded through a line-of-credit for improvements in the Entertainment District and elsewhere.”
