Elderly cancer patient without food calls 911; operator buys groceries

After months in the hospital undergoing cancer treatment and rehab, 81-year-old Clarence Blackmon came home to an empty refrigerator, and literally nothing to eat.Blackmon called and told the operator that he was out of food and he was too weak to go to the store. One dispatcher went out of her way to help him out.

The 911 operator, Marilyn Hinson, along with Fayetteville Police answered his call for help in person, with some groceries.

His need was simple; just a head of cabbage, some cans of beans and beets, popcorn, tomato juice and soft drinks. He says this will be enough to get him through the next couple of days. Blackmon says he had a guardian angel that made sure he didn’t go hungry.
