EFFINGHAM, SC (WBTW) – An Effingham woman pleaded guilty to animal cruelty charges and will serve three years of probation.

Solicitor Ed Clements told News13 that Donna Keller Lee, 71, pleaded guilty to three counts of cruelty to animals. She was originally charged with 39 counts.

According to Clements, Lee received five years suspended to three years probation with the following conditions: she can’t have animals during this time, she can’t be involved in any business dealings involving animals, and she will be subject to unannounced property inspections.

A restitution hearing will be held later this month, and Clements said Valiant Rescue Group will likely ask for her to pay for the care of the 39 animals rescued.
