Despite all the bad news around the hurricane and its aftermath, there’s also good news.
The generosity of eastern Carolinians was quite evident today in Florence where a lot of people were still without power.
At the House of Hope on West Darlington Street. volunteers prepared a free lunch for members of the community
there was chicken, fruits and vegetables, all for free.
The Harris Teeter near Five Points in Florence handed out water and ice this morning, also for free. The store started at around 10:30 a.m and kept it up until it completely ran out.
Volunteers at Ebenezer Baptist Church in West Florence have been packing up lunches to hand out to school-aged children.
More than 200 volunteers have helped out so far. With school out, many say this is the only lunch many children will get.
“We just put out the call to see if we could get the people to drop off some donations here and volunteers and honestly through social media we completely have had hundreds of volunteers come through we have been able to pack close to 2,000 lunches.”
The church will accept donations tomorrow at it’s youth center. It looks, specifically, for non-perishable food items.
