In mid-June, the central Department of Social Services experienced a power outage that caused technical difficulties with the system that supports Family Independence and SNAP benefits.

DSS says that people seeking to apply for benefits cannot do that online while the system is being fixed.  Additionally, families that applied for benefits or mailed recertification forms between June 1 and June 28 could have interruptions or delays in their benefits and are asked to resubmit their forms.

The office says the system for payment of benefits was not affected by the technical difficulties that occurred from the storm.

Individuals are still able to submit paperwork in person, by mail, or by fax to their local DSS office.  If you have further questions, please contact your local county DSS office or call 1-800-616-1309.
