Driver in deadly North Myrtle Beach hit and run turns self in

MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WBTW) – The driver involved in a deadly hit and run crash Monday morning in the North Myrtle Beach area came forward to police.

After watching the news Monday night, the driver came to the North Myrtle Beach Police Department and was interviewed, Public Information Officer Pat Dowling said.

A vehicle hit and killed a person on Highway 22 in Horry County early Monday morning, according to Horry County Deputy Coroner Darris Fowler.

Fowler said the collision happened at about 1:45 a.m. and 23-year-old Andrew McGuire from Myrtle Beach was killed while walking along the highway.

Dowling said access to SC 22 Conway-bound from US 17 was closed while a SC Highway Patrol M.A.I.T Team investigated the accident.

Monday afternoon Dowling released a description of the car that hit McGuire. Officials were looking for a 2010-2015 Cyber Grey Metallic Chevrolet Camaro with damage to the passenger front or side.

The vehicle has been seized for processing and the investigation continues.

“We do have a suspect and the suspect has spoken with investigators. We are waiting on SC MAIT to complete their investigation before we take any additional steps,” Dowling said.

According to Dowling, while North Myrtle Beach Police have interviewed a suspect or person of interest regarding the August 29 early morning death of a pedestrian on SC Hwy 22, that person is not in Police custody and no charges have been filed against them at this time.
