Officials say a 21-year-old man was killed after being hit by a car in the area of Kings Highway and Woodside Avenue in Myrtle Beach Sunday morning.
Deputy Coroner Michelle McSpadden identifies the victim as Brandon Brinson, 21, from Magnolia, N.C.
According to the Horry County Joint Information center, it happened around 6:50am and a police officer witnessed the incident.
Myrtle Beach Police say, Reginald Rivers Jr. was operating a vehicle northbound on Kings Highway at a high rate of speed.
Lt. Joey Crosby says, Rivers hit the moped that was also traveling north on Kings Highway from behind and Brinson died as a result of the accident.
Officials say Rivers fled on foot, a police officer pursued and was able to bring him into custody.
Lt. Crosby said Rivers is now charged with felony DUI, leaving the scene of an accident, driving under suspension and felony in possession of a handgun.
The collision caused northbound lanes of Kings Highway to be shut down temporarily.
