Driver charged with felony DUI after deadly wreck in Georgetown

One person is dead, and other is charged with felony DUI after a wreck in Georgetown.

According to South Carolina Highway Patrol Sgt. Bob Beres, the wreck happened at 9:45 Tuesday night on Browns Ferry Road, near the Georgetown County Detention Center.

Sgt. Beres says a 2003 Mercury Grand Marquis was driving north, and a 2007 Ford F-150 was traveling south, when the Ford crossed the center line and hit the Mercury head-on.

The SCHP says one of the passengers in the Mercury was airlifted to Grand Strand Regional Medical Center, while the other two were sent via ambulance.

Georgetown County Coroner Kenny Johnson says 22-year-old Treyshawn Elder of of Samuel Drive, Georgetown died in the wreck. He was the driver of the Mercury. Johnson says Elder was wearing a seatbelt, and there will be an autopsy on Wednesday at Grand Strand Regional Medical Center.

The SCHP says both the driver of the Ford, 20-year-old Frederick Travis, and the passenger weren’t hurt. Sgt. Beres says Travis is charged with felony DUI.
