DILLON, SC (WBTW) – The South Carolina Highway Patrol says a Charleston woman will now face charges in connection to a deadly hit-and-run in Dillon County.
Troopers say it happened on Highway 9 near Pleasant Hill Rd just before 3:20 Saturday morning.
Lance Corporal Matt Southern says the pedestrian was crossing Highway 9 when the driver of a Ford Pick-up hit them trying to pass another vehicle.
Troopers identified the driver as 35-year-old Shawna Smiling. Troopers say she fled the scene but was located a short while later.
Dillon County Coroner Donnie Grimsley says Calvin Fletcher, 56, of Dillon County died in the crash. His autopsy is scheduled for Sunday morning.
Smiling is charged with Felony DUI resulting in death and leaving scene accident resulting in death. She was taken to the Dillon County jail.
