Driver attempts to pass ambulance, crashes SUV into NC home

CLAYTON, N.C. – A Clayton man crashed his SUV through a home after he tried to pass an ambulance in a turn lane, state troopers tell CBS North Carolina.

It happened at about 10:30 Monday night in the 2300 block of N.C. 42 west.

Investigators say the driver was speeding and trying to pass an ambulance when he hit a traffic island, ran off the road, and hit the house.

The driver, his 14-year-old daughter and her 15-year-old friend were taken to the hospital with minor injuries.

Troopers say the man who lives at the house was not there.

County officials are expected to check the house today.

Troopers tell CBS North Carolina that charges against the driver are pending.
