MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WBTW) – Thousands of car and truck enthusiasts made their way to the Myrtle Beach Speedway this weekend for the NOPI Nationals car show.

Exhibitors showed off some custom parts and area car clubs showed off their rides.

More than 900 vehicles participated, organizers say that’s the largest number since the show came to Myrtle Beach in 2014.

Professional drivers competed in drifting competitions and the audience was able to compete against each other a variety of events from best burn outs to loudest exhausts.

“So not only are you in the crowd watching the pro drivers you also get an opportunity in the show itself,” said J. Bird with NOPI Nationals.

“Such good competition, you can actually just see so many new good ideas, and the people here are just great,” said James hines who competed in the custom truck division.

16 year old Alston Gibson won the burnout competition and was happy to beat the boys.

“I’m taking over like Ronda Rousey in the truck game,” said Gibson; but she would like to see more girls participate.

NOPI Nationals hold two shows in Myrtle Beach each year. The next will be July 29th – 31st and organizers expect to see an even bigger crowd with more tourists in town.
