Dragon Boat racers compete for a cause

MYRTLE BEACH – Dozens of teams took to the water Saturday for this year’s Dragon Boat Festival at the Market Common.

The Myrtle Beach non-profit Ground Zero organized the race where teams of up to 20 to help raise money for the charity.

WBTW’s Stormtracker Team participated, taking the win in the local media heat.

Notable in that race, another boat capsized, soaking the entire crew. Everyone was ok but we’re told one team member did lose a shoe.

Teams participating raised funds for the charity and various other causes.

Kimberly McLemb was back again as an advocate for gun safety, a topic close to her heart since she lost her brother.

“This community always gives back to us so we’re more than happy to give back to them as well,” said McLemb.

It was the 8th annual Dragon Boat competition.
