Some school districts in the News13 area will operate on a delay on Friday after officials cited a Thursday afternoon Special Statement from the National Weather Service.
The weather service said at 3:45 pm Thursday that ice could be on some roads and walkways early Friday morning in Georgetown, Horry, Marion, Florence, Dillon, Marlboro, Darlington and Williamsburg counties.
The schools that are on a 2- hour delay Friday so far are:
Georgetown County
Williamsburg County
“Freezing fog is expected to develop late tonight as temperatures drop below freezing… and then continue into early Friday morning. This fog will coat exposed surfaces with a very fine layer of ice,” the National Weather Service said.
The weather service said patchy black ice will develop late Thursday night and that bridges will be most susceptible to icing.
The statement also applies to several NC counties, including Robeson, Columbus and Brunswick.
The ice will likely melt when temperatures rise above freezing by 9 am, according to the special weather statement.
