DILLON, SC (WBTW) – Over the past few months, Dillon County has experienced a rash of both car and more recently, church break-ins.
Back in January, News13 told you about a church in Dillon dealing with the thefts.
However, the problems have continued with other churches and there have been four church break-ins just in February alone in Dillon County.
According to the sheriff’s office, Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Hamer, Hazy Grove Baptist Church also in Hamer, Poplar Creek Baptist Church in Lake View and Zion Temple Holiness Church in Dillon were all victimized.
“Several of these churches are out in rural areas of the county and of course not a lot of population around so that’s kind of an easy target so to speak for someone to victimize that location,” said Captain Cliff Arnette, Dillon County Sheriff’s Office.
In all of the break-ins the narrative has been pretty much the same as far as someone trying to force their way through the door and tampering with the power.
In one instance someone actually stole musical equipment.
Arnette says some of the churches have started to tighten security measures and the deputies have upped patrol.
The sheriff’s office is still investigating all of the break-ins and if you know anything you’re encouraged to give them a call at 843-774-1432.
