The S.C. Board of Health and Environmental Control announced today the appointment of Catherine Heigel as director of the Department of Health and Environmental Control (DHEC).
“The selection of Catherine Heigel to lead DHEC reaffirms the Board’s commitment to the agency and the people of South Carolina,“ said Board Chairman Allen Amsler. “A nationwide search was organized, 99 applications were received, applicants were reviewed and interviews were conducted. With her strong background and leadership skills, we are confident in Heigel’s ability to successfully continue the Board’s vision and propel the agency forward.”
Heigel currently serves as General Counsel and Corporate Strategies Officer for Elliott Davis Decosimo, LLC.
In addition, Heigel previously served as President of Duke Energy South Carolina. She holds a Bachelor of Arts from the University of South Carolina and a law degree from the Ohio State University School of Law.
“Heigel’s expertise and knowledge in law and management will serve as valuable assets for the future of DHEC as we continue our work to promote and protect the health of the public and the environment,” said Amsler.
The DHEC director is selected by the board to serve a four-year term. The appointment is subject to approval by the Governor, and the advice and consent of the Senate.
