Deputies: SC woman tries to burn down house, son stabbed

UNION, S.C.- A woman is facing an arson charge after deputies say she tried to set her house on fire with her husband and son inside.

According to an incident report from the Union County Sheriff’s Office, it happened early Sunday morning at a home on Jonesville Lockhart Highway in Union.

The report says 38-year-old Tonya Dawn McComb was arrested and charged with 2nd degree arson.

Deputies initially got a call to Union Medical Center for an assault call at the home. When they got there, McComb’s husband told them McComb was having mental health issues and locked herself in the bedroom.

According to the report, she said she was going to burn down the house, along with herself. Her husband told their juvenile son to check on her. The son ended up kicking in the door and found the floor on fire in the bedroom.

The son told deputies that after he put the fire out, he noticed his mom was holding a knife. When he tried to grab it away from her, they both fell backwards and he was stabbed, according to the report.

Deputies notified DSS about the incident.

McComb was taken to the Union County Jail.
