A body was found inside a vehicle in Darlington County on Monday morning. The incident is being investigated as a homicide, according to Darlington County Coroner Todd Hardee.

Lt. Robert Kilgo with the Darlington County Sheriff’s Office tells News13 that a body was found in a wrecked car, in the area of North Center Road and East Home Avenue in the Centerville section of the county.

The discovery was made in a field around 9:30 a.m.

The name of the person has not been released. Hardee tells News13 the person’s name will be released once family is notified. An autopsy has been scheduled in Newberry.

SLED’s Forensic Services Unit is assisting investigators with the Darlington County Sheriff’s Office.

It’s unclear what led to the person’s death.
