Deputies ID 12-year-old killed in ATV crash in Olanta

SUMTER COUNTY  (WBTW) – The Sumter County Coroner says a 12-year-old has died after an ATV accident in Olanta Sunday afternoon.

Public Information Officer Ken Bell with the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office says the accident happened around 3:15 p.m.

Deputies responded to Douglas Swamp Road to investigate. A relative on the scene explained the young boy was driving the ATV across a field and it suddenly flipped several times, landing directly on the child. The relative told deputies he immediately drove the child to his parent’s home and the 12-year-old’s parents then rushed him to McLeod Regional Medical Center in Florence.

Bell identifies the child killed in the accident as Hunter Moore, 12, of Olanta. Moore died of internal injuries, explains Bell.

Bell says Moore had just celebrated his 12th birthday on April 12.
