CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Investigators released more information on the discovery of Erica Parsons’ remains.

Rowan County Sheriffs say they are waiting on information from the medical examiner before they determine charges.

Officials told WBTV that Parsons’ adoptive father led investigators to her body last week.

Parsons was originally reported missing from Rowan County in July of 2013 but had not been seen for two years prior to that.

During the investigations, Erica’s adopted parents were charged with Federal fraud charges related to her disappearance and were later sentenced to prison where they are still held.

Erica’s brother told investigators that his parents told him that Erica had gone to Asheville to live with her grandmother, according to WBTV.

According to the sherrif’s office they believe Erica was dead long before she was reported missing.

Lyerly Funeral home in Salisbury will offer all the services for Erica.

“What we’ll ask the public – and anybody that’s interested – is to consider donating for her marker, in what we hope will be an angel. That is something she had a passion for – angels,” said Sheriff Kevin Auten. Donations can be made to ‘Prevent Child Abuse Rowan:’ – 130 Woodsen Street, Salisbury, NC 28144. People are asked to make a notation of “Erica’s angel.” A grave plot has also been donated for Parsons.
