Denver Broncos’ Ryan Murphy questioned in prostitution sting, will not play in Super Bowl 50

SANTA CLARA (KRON) — The Denver Broncos’ Ryan Murphy has been questioned in a prostitution sting, and will not play in Super Bowl 50 in Santa Clara, according to Broncos coach Gary Kubiak.

Here’s Kubiak’s statement.

“Although practice squad safety Ryan Murphy was not cited by police, we decided it was best for the team if we continued our preparations for Super Bowl 50 without him,” Denver Broncos head coach Gary Kubiak said in a statement released Tuesday night. “Ryan is returning to Denver, but his status as a practice squad player has not changed at this time.”

According to Santa Clara County Sheriff’s Office spokesman Sgt. James Jensen, the Santa Clara County human trafficking task force had been increasing sting operations since last week because of Super Bowl 50.

Jensen said one of the stings happened at around 4 or 5 p.m. in the area of North First Street and Brokaw Road in San Jose. One man was cited and released. A woman was given county resource information, police said.

The sting happened at a Motel 6 near the San Jose airport, where the Broncos’ Murphy was detained and questioned Tuesday by a sheriff’s prostitution sting working the area.

Murphy was present at the time, questioned by authorities, but was later determined to not be involved, Jensen said.

In all, 10 men have been cited for solicitation and 20 females have been given human trafficking victim advocates.

Jensen would not confirm if there was a connection between Murphy and the man cited.

Murphy was born in Oakland, according to his profile page.
