FLORENCE, S.C. (WBTW)-Some Florence county residents went to the polls to cast their ballot for the house district 63 seat. This is for the seat state representative Kris Crawford gave up in December. Three republicans run in the primary, Jay Jordan, Robby Hill and Elijah Jones.

“Every election is a big deal,” said Charles Lebase.

That is why Charles Lebase, a resident of Florence county for more than twenty years came out to vote on Tuesday.

“You have all this power in your hands and a lot of people don’t use it. And all these little elections and everything, they make up a lot of your government, that’s the biggest thing”

Although the precinct clerks say the weather was a factor for voter turnout, the people who have showed up say the pressing issues are too important not to vote.

“More jobs to Florence, the economy here in Florence, look at our road conditions, we pay all of this road tax and nothing happens to our road systems and we end up paying for you know our county and stuff.”

And Lebase wasn’t alone with the infrastructure problems.

“Obviously some decision needs to be made about the road repair and probably education, said Charlie Howle, a voter.

While those were the main hot topics voters talked about, some voters felt there are deeper issues.

“I think they need to concentrate on morals and ethics, that’s something we need a lot of help with,” said Bill Raugh, a voter.

All of the  candidates said these were issues they’d bring to Columbia during debates that led up to the election. Voters just hope that whatever candidate wins, that the representative will work for them.

“Represent the people, that’s the biggest thing. Take our issues to heart. Not what’s the best interest in you but what’s the best interest in our county,” said Lebase.

Whoever wins the seat will begin their representative work in April.
