Dead man identified after discovery in creek near Florence playground

Authorities found a 38-year-old Timmonsville man’s body in Timrod Park in Florence Thursday morning.

Florence County Coroner Keith von Lutcken says a body was found in a creek near the park by someone walking in the area.

von Lutcken identified the man as Tommy Jokari Burch, of the 4000 block of Jackie Proctor Road, Timmonsville.

“My examination revealed (Burch) had died approximately 1-2 hours prior to discovery,” von Lutcken said.

In an autopsy performed Saturday, Von Lutcken said there was no evidence of foul play. The case is pending toxicological analyses.The incident is under investigation by the Florence Police Dept. and Florence County Coroner’s Office.
