GEORGETOWN, S.C. (WBTW)- Officials arrested a Georgetown resident for cruelty to animals, permitting domestic animals to run at large and failure to bury an animal.
Officers first responded to a call at Desmain Campbell’s home in early June on a call that an aggressive dog was running loose in the neighborhood. Neighbors said his pit bull was running up and down the street and chasing people, but Campbell was not home.
Officers received another call about dogs at the same residence being mistreated and when they entered the home they found a dead dog stuffed in a bag of dog food sitting next to another dog’s kennel.
The dogs on the property were in dirty kennels and did not have access to water or food in the 91 degree heat. Officers found and removed a female pit with three puppies, a malnourished male and an additional female pit.
Officers were able to contact the owner over the phone, but Campbell refused to come home, saying he would not go to jail for the dogs.
