On Sunday, we will all miss an hour of sleep thanks to Daylight Saving Time. And if you’re not a fan of the time change you could be in luck. Several lawmakers have filed bills this year that could do away with the hassle of rolling your clock back or pushing it forward.
It’s a change we all make twice a year; turning our clocks back an hour in the fall and forward an hour in the spring.
A time change that gets many people frustrated.
“I honestly don’t get the point of it, but it can be a bit of a nuisance to have to turn it forward and turn it back and having to get up an hour later or hour earlier,” said Spencer Hower when asked about the clock adjustment.
Historically, DST was introduced to conserve energy and maximize use of daylight hours but now lawmakers say times are different.
Several bills have been filed that consider doing away with the time change.
Representative Mike Burns from Greenville County has signed on to one of those bills. “People detest moving the clock up moving the clock back and all of the ramifications that go with it. People come in church Sunday morning and dpending on when it is they’re an hour early or an hour late.”
Medical professionals say if you’re already sleep deprived losing an hour of sleep can have a negative impact.
Doctors suggest making small adjustments in your sleep schedule a few days beofre the time change and to avoid caffeine
A total of 4 bills have been filed between the Senate and the House representing 2 different ideas of what to do with DST. Some lawmakers say adopt the time change while others say let it go.
Representative Burns added, “Most people want it to stay on Daylight Saving Time. I personally want it to stay on some time consistently through the year.”
The bills have been referred to the appropriate committees. Now it’s just a waiting game to see when the bills will be put on the agenda.
And North Carolina has a bill this session to create a committee to study the impact of having or not having daylight saving time.
In Florida, lawmakers there are there are pushing for an exception from congress to make their own decision and allow for daylight saving time to become the standard time.
