MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WBTW) – Documents from South Carolina Law Enforcement Division confirm the Horry County Police officer who shot a shoplifting suspect in November 2015 has been cleared of any wrongdoing.
An incident report from Horry County police details that the shoplifting suspect, 26-year-old Laquandra Borden, of Sumter, was dragging an officer with her vehicle in attempts to get away from police. A second officer shot and wounded Borden.
Documents obtained by News13 show SLED’s investigation concluded that Lance Cpl. Crystal Buckingham acted properly when she shot Borden. Investigators determined that Buckingham fired when Borden tried to drive away with Horry County officer Floyd Truss stuck between the woman’s vehicle and its open door.
During the incident, Borden was able to get away but was later stopped and has been charged with hit and run, aggravated assault, assault and battery, shoplifting and conspiracy.
