A Darlington County woman voluntarily surrendered to South Carolina Department of Revenue (SCDOR) investigators at the Darlington County Detention Facility today.
The defendant, Dana Davis Moore, is charged with two counts of failure to truthfully account for and pay over tax for tax years 2010 and 2011. If convicted, the defendant faces penalties of up to $10,000 and/or up to five years in prison per count.
Moore, owner and operator of J Davis Enterprise Inc., was responsible for making withholding tax payments and filing withholding tax returns on behalf of the corporation. Throughout 2010 and 2011, the defendant knowingly failed to meet such responsibilities and now owes a debt total of $24,702 in state taxes withheld.
Moore is being held at the Darlington County Detention Facility awaiting a bond hearing.
The SCDOR is committed to the fair administration of tax laws. By taking enforcement action against noncompliant taxpayers, the Department seeks to prevent unfairly increasing the tax burden on those who do comply.
