HARTSVILLE, SC (WBTW) – Hartsville Police arrested a woman from Darlington Thursday, a month after she reportedly set her boyfriend’s bed on fire at a motel.

The report says police responded to an arson at a motel on North Fifth Street in Hartsville on July 29. On arrival, officers spoke with the victim who said he and his girlfriend, Sandra Johnson, came to the motel to spend time together, but after Johnson learned another female her boyfriend “was acquainted with” was staying at the same motel, the two had an argument.

The report says after the argument, the boyfriend went to sleep.The victim told police he woke up with the feeling of his feet being hot and noticed the end of the bed was on fire. The boyfriend tried to put the fire out and saw that Johnson had left the motel.

The police report says the right side of the box spring and the bedding was burned and smelled strongly of lighter fluid.

Police checked the area but could not find Johnson. A warrant was issued for arson and attempted murder, the police report says.

Darlington County inmate records show Johnson was arrested this week on charges of arson and attempted murder, along with assault and battery and burglary charges.

Records state that Johnson was denied bond on all charges.
