DARLINGTON – If you’re heading to the infield at Darlington Raceway for the Southern 500 this fall, you might feel like you’re passing through history as you enter through the track’s tunnels.
The raceway just finished tunnel renovations that will showcase some of its special memories and historic moments. The Turn 3 tunnel features a timeline of big moments at the track, while the Turn 1 tunnel shows pictures of each Southern 500 winner.
The new designs are part of the track’s new marketing strategy designed to focus on its decorated past.
“This track is so rich in history that we feel like we could celebrate that each and every year for the next five-to-seven years,” track president Chip Wile said. “So (we’re) excited about the things we have planned for our race weekend, but really throughout the year when people come visit.”
