DARLINGTON, SC (WBTW) – People who live in a mobile home community in Darlington say that they are being forced to move.
Residents in Juleswood neighborhood say they received a letter Friday from a Hartsville law firm, telling them to move within 30 days.“I see these people sitting on the porch with their heads down and I go they don’t look right. So my sister showed me the letter,” said Queen Esther Coethompson, whose family stays in the mobile home lot.
Friday, all the residents in the mobile lot received a notice stating the owner of the rental property died last year and that her family will no longer rent the property.
According to the Conner Law Firm, which represents the estate of the owner, the reason the property is no longer for rent is because of the estate’s need for money in order to pay debts.
The firm told News13 that the estate was left with no apparent option.
“30 days is no time and I do not have that kind of money,” said Juleswood resident Minne Johnson
Between moving costs and finding a new lot added with a majority of the people here being elderly and disabled, residents say they simply can’t move.
“I would ask them could they get together and make an agreement so the people could stay out here,” Gary Pearson, who also lives in the lot.
The Conner Law Firm went on to say, “the estate is attempting to give the residents the maximum flexibility the law offers while still moving toward complete vacancy of the property.”
It also said the estate chose an extended deadline to make it easier for the people to move.
The residents there have also set up a GoFundMe page to help with the expenses.
