DARLINGTON, SC (WBTW) – Three people were arrested Sunday in Darlington when deputies discovered pieces of multiple meth labs and the investigation revealed a child was sexually assaulted, according to Sheriff Wayne Byrd.
The Darlington County Sheriff’s Office went to a home on Jeffords Mill Road in Darlington for a follow-up investigation. While deputies were talking with the homeowner, they notice several items used for making methamphetamine. The homeowner allowed deputies to search the home, and agents with the Drug Enforcement Unit were called to the house.
Agents discovered approximately eight methamphetamine labs in or around the house, adds Sheriff Byrd. A hazardous material clean-up crew responded to the scene as well as the Darlington County Fire Department. In addition, agents with the Department of Social Services were called after it was discovered that two small children were in the home.
As officials investigated the situation, they learned of a sexual assault of a child committed by a woman visiting the home. Randi Lynn Brown, 21, of Marion, was charged with criminal sexual conduct with a minor second degree.
Deputies arrested two other people inside the home. Jessica Louise Melton, 33, and Willie Edward Howell, both of Darlington, are each charged with manufacturing methamphetamine first offense, possession of methamphetamine, disposal of methamphetamine waste and exposing minor child to methamphetamine.
