DARLINGTON, S.C. (WBTW)- The Darlington County Courthouse is no longer under lockdown, after a man ran out of a courtroom.

Sheriff Wayne Byrd told News13 23-year-old Shanard Keondre King was at the courthouse just before 2:30 Monday afternoon for a hearing on his drug charges. He was not in custody before the hearing.

Sheriff Byrd says after King was sentenced to nine years in jail, he walked to the side of the courtroom on the 5th floor, and ran to the stairwell.

A probation agent and a police officer tried to follow him, but King outran them.

Sheriff Byrd told News13 deputies are done searching the building, and witnesses told deputies they saw King run through an alley near the courthouse.
