LAMAR, SC (WBTW) – This entire week, people living in and around Lamar in Darlington County have been worried after a string of daytime burglaries.

The Darlington County Sheriff’s Office posted on their Facebook page that TV’s and guns were stolen.

Sheriff Wayne Byrd told News13 that a bulk of the break-in’s has happened on the Southside of town.

He also says that a majority were reported on Monday, but that there were several on Tuesday.

“If I would’ve got my hands on him he wouldn’t have to worry about nobody else,” said Wayne Weaver, whose home was almost broken into.

On Monday, he and his wife left the house for a couple hours only to come back and find a surprise at the back door.

“A little card in the back door…when she opened it, there was a hatchet lying in that bush right there.  They were fixing to break into the house,” Weaver stated.

Thanks to a chance encounter by the Weaver’s next door neighbor with the man who tried to break-in, nothing was stolen.

“I ain’t scared.  I’ve been here too long to be scared,” mentioned Weaver.

The sheriff’s office is now in the process of following up on a few tips they’ve received.

No arrests have been made.  If you do have information on the recent burglaries you’re asked to call them at 843-398-4501 or 843-398-4920.
