Nearly 100 young people have spent all week helping out others in the Pee Dee. They’re part of the “Community Changers” mission group.
All week long the “Community Changers” camped out at Mechanicsville Baptist Church in Darlington with a mission.
Friday morning the group picked up their drills, measuring tape, nail guns and got to work at High Hill Baptist Church.
“It was a really planning project. It’s taken some time. It’s really artistic,” mentioned Kirby Gardner
They’ve been planning the project for two years.
“It was a bit of a problem with the elevation and the elevation falling away caused the group to build an extensive ramp,” said Ray Graham, Director of Community Changers.
Graham has been leading these projects from the beginning and he says it gets easier every year.
“Get a lot accomplished with the limited amount of time because of the experiences we’ve had over the years,”he said.
An experience that keeps teenagers like Kirby Gardner coming back.
“A great way to just communicate and get along with one another and just have a good time really and have some good laughs and work hard, but at the same time we’re here for Jesus Christ too,” mentioned Gardner.
Although the projects serve a much bigger purpose. Graham says the relationship between the kids and adults make all the difference.
“Spend some time together and getting to know each other and sharing concerns and information. In particular adults sharing their experience and wisdom with the kids in a non-threatening environment,”said Graham.

The group plans has already begun to prepare for next year’s projects.
