The Darlington County Sheriff’s Office has charged a man in the stabbing death of his 31-year-old nephew over the weekend, said Sheriff J. Wayne Byrd.

James Alvis Kinley Jr., age 53, was charged Monday with murder in the stabbing death early Sunday morning.

The incident took place on Union Street in the Society Hill area of Darlington County on Sunday morning.

The victim has been identified as 31 year-old Damaal Renard Cook of Society Hill.

Sheriff Byrd says they received a call around 4 a.m. after deputies say Kinley of Darlington got into an altercation and stabbed Cook to death. Kinley is being held at the Darlington County Detention Center awaiting a bond hearing.
