Darlington County deputies arrest a man after he ran from them and ditched a gun

HARTSVILLE, SC –  Deputies arrested a man Thursday night after responding to a call of a man brandishing a firearm following a domestic-related argument, according to a press release from the Darlington County Sheriff’s Office. 

It happened Thursday around 8 p.m. after Darlington County Deputies responded to a call to the Dollar General at 2091 W. Bobo Newsom Highway. 

Deputies say they found the suspect driving a vehicle near the intersection of Hillcrest Rd. and Clyde Rd.  According to the release, the driver eventually stopped on Timmons Drive and attempted to flee on foot and ditched a handgun.

Deputies arrested Jesse Washington, 32, of Hartsville.  They found a  9mm handgun near the suspect along with a loaded 9mm magazine in the vehicle.

Washington will be charged with failure to stop a motor vehicle when signaled by law-enforcement and unlawful carrying of a handgun.   

 Deputies were assisted by the South Carolina Highway Patrol. Troopers may seek additional charges
