PINELLAS PARK, FL– Authorities say alcohol played a role in an officer involved shooting that claimed the lives of a father and son in Pinellas Park Saturday night.
The incident occurred just before 9 p.m. at the family’s home at 6082 96th Terrace. Pinellas Park Police say officers went to the home after the argument started between Irena Bogusiewicz and her husband, 59-year-old Waldemar Bogusiewicz, over who was going to buy more beer.
Irena Bogusiewicz told investigators that during the argument, the couple’s son – 25-year-old Adrian Bogusiewicz – came out of his room to see what his parents were yelling about. Irena, 58, then left the residence to call police, leaving her son and husband alone in the house.
At some point after she went outside and before police arrived the dispute between Waldemar and Adrian escalated. The report states Waldemar then shot his son several times in his bedroom.
Two officers went into the home to investigate and when they did they saw Adrian suffering from gunshot wounds on the floor. Waldemar, armed with a gun, began yelling at the officers to leave.
Irena also yelled to Officers Michael Jasiukiewicz and Jeremy Copeland that her husband was armed. Waldemar then fired on the officers and when they returned fire, he was hit. He was transported to Northside Hospital where he later died.
Adrian was pronounced dead at the scene. Irena and the officers were not hurt during the incident.
Multiple firearms were found in both the son’s bedroom and the master bedroom of the home during the search, police say. Autopsy results are pending on both the son and husband; however alcohol does appear to be a factor in the shooting on the part of the husband.
Jasiukiewicz and Copeland have been placed on paid administrative leave pending an investigation per department policy.
