MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WBTW) – Myrtle Beach Police think they’ve identified the swimmer who went missing at 29th Avenue South in front of the Crown Reef Resort.

Myrtle Beach Police Sgt. Phillip Cain said officers responded to a distressed swimmer call at 6:15 p.m. He said four people reported seeing a distressed swimmer in the water.

The Coast Guard assisted in the search with a helicopter and boat on the water.

According to the police report, as the officers were leaving the beach, someone found a set of keys and a cell phone in the sand. The officer collected the items and logged everything as found property.

Officers believe the items could belong to the missing swimmer.

According to a report, an officer contacted the owner of the missing items, who told the officer her son, 33-year-old James Franklin Ross, II, was visiting Myrtle Beach from Rock Hill for the day.

Another officer found Ross’ car at the 28th Avenue South beach access.

Officers say Ross is now in the NCIC.
