Extra fire and rescue units were called Monday afternoon to help battle a fire at a house on SC Highway 57 near SC 9 in Horry County, officials say.

Horry County Fire Rescue PIO Brian Van Aernem said a passing Horry County Police officer spotted the fire just before 5 pm at a single-family home at 232 N. SC Highway 57, which is also Wampee Road.

SC Highway 57 near The Retreat subdivision was completely blocked by emergency vehicles. The fire was brought under control at about 7:30 pm, according to officials.

After the fire was first reported, a second ambulance and a second fire engine were dispatched to the scene, said Brian Van Aernem, of Horry County Fire Rescue.

Then, around 5:10 pm, a second alarm was called for more units to respond to the scene, including those from Calabash and North Myrtle Beach Fire.

Van Aernem said there were no injuries and the cause of the fire remains under investigation.
