GREENVILLE, SC – A scam alert has been issued for drivers in South Carolina.
Police say they’ve found credit card skimmers at local gas stations in Greenville. The devices were hidden inside the pumps and loaded with people’s financial information.
The thieves would likely sell that information online, police said.
Right now police aren’t sure if there are any victims. They’re asking you to consistently check your bank accounts.
“When they service those gas pumps, on occasion they will find skimmers that are placed inside the machines,“ said Det. Drew Palmer, Greenville Police Department.
Police suggest using newer pumps that are more likely to have technology that will shut a pump down if it’s tampered with.
