CONWAY, SC (WBTW) – A Conway woman was jailed for DUI and child endangerment after police say she crashed into a utility pole on Juniper Bay Road Thursday morning.
An incident report from South Carolina Highway Patrol documents that troopers arrived on scene of a collision on Juniper Bay Road Thursday morning around 7:12 a.m. The driver, identified as Jody Nicole Quick, 29, of Conway, said she was driving east on the road when she ran off the right side and hit a utility pole.
Quick initially told troopers a deer ran in front of her car, but the highway patrolman notes the tire tracks left the grass in a gradual manner before striking the ditch and then the pole, according to the report. The trooper also notes that Quick was very lethargic, was slurring her words and her eyes “seemed to roll backwards” while the trooper was asking her simple questions.
Witnesses told troopers that immediately before the crash, Quick’s vehicle was “swerving all over the highway.”
The report states that Quick’s child, who is under the age of 17, was sitting in the front passenger seat when Quick drove the car into the pole. Quick and her son were taken to the hospital where Quick refused a breathalyzer test, a blood test, or a urine sample.
Quick was booked into J. Reuben Long Detention Center Thursday morning at 11:30 a.m. where she remains behind bars as of Monday evening with no bail set, according to online booking records. Quick is charged with one count each of DUI and child endangerment.
